Smallville, “Prophecy”

This review is going to be really short, as I am short on time, catching up AND have very little to say about this episode. I hate to say this, but it’s pretty obvious that Smallville had no business coming back for a full 22-episode final season. I enjoy these characters and like spending time … Read more

Waiting for Superman, week four: How important is the ending?

With only five more weeks of Smallville, there are mixed emotions in the TVS headquarters. To work out those conflicting feelings, I’ll be writing a pre-episode piece every week from here on out until the final episode on May 13. You can the first three pieces here, here and here if you missed them. You … Read more

Waiting for Superman, week one: How Smallville can stick the landing

With only five more weeks of Smallville, there are mixed emotions in the TVS headquarters. To work out those conflicting feelings, I’ll be writing a pre-episode piece every week from here on out until the final episode on May 13. This is the first one, obviously. Smallville‘s tenth and final season has been a bit … Read more

Smallville, “Fortune”
Posted by Cory Barker on February 26, 2011 · Leave a Comment
UGH. Ever since I read a few spoilers about “Fortune,” I prepared myself for a terrible episode. But I don’t think anything could have prepared me for the giant suck-fest I watched unravel on my screen this evening. It’s been well-established that the Smallville writers have no qualms about ripping entire plots from other texts … Read more

Smallville, “Masquerade”

Up to this point, neither Chloe’s return or the development of Darksied’s crew have been handled quite well. The budget strongly impacts the latter while before this episode, I wasn’t convinced the writers had any plan for the former. Allison Mack was willing to come back, and thus she did. Thankfully, “Masquerade” figures out a … Read more

Human Target, “The Return of Baptiste”

Apologies for the delay in this write-up, I’ve been swamped with end of the semester business and unfortunately, that will continue for the next week or so. I’ll try to have some things pre-written, but it’s going to be light around these parts for a while I think. Anyway, this week’s Human Target? Pretty great, … Read more

Season Premiere — Human Target, “Ilsa Pucci”
Posted by Cory Barker on November 17, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Writing about the Human Target season two premiere is particularly interesting to me for a few reasons. First of all, I have rarely, if ever, just jumped into a series without seeing most of the episodes leading up to said jump-in point. I literally can’t think of any series that I’ve done that with in … Read more

Smallville, “Ambush”

Sorry for the delay folks, I had to take a few days off to restore some sanity, and not the Jon Stewart variety. That decision is kind of unfortunate, at least in relationship to Smallville, which turned in one of its better episodes of the season. After a few goofy and gimmicky episodes, “Ambush” felt … Read more

Smallville, “Harvest”

I noted last week that it would be difficult to top the 200th episode, so there was really no reason for “Isis” to attempt to. However, I didn’t really expect or want the trend of mediocrity to continue into “Harvest,” which is unfortunately what happened. “Harvest” is also similar to “Isis” in that it writes … Read more
